Lush Life - Phineas Newborn, Jr.
BackPhineas Newborn, Jr. performs Billy Strayhorn's tune Lush Life, with a little Ravel intro thrown in. From a TV show in 1962. I'm trying to figure this beautiful song out myself, although much simpler of course.

The production of this video is actually pretty tight. Good sound quality, especially for the 1960s, and I love the way the piano face reflects his fingers moving across the keys. It's very very cool.

Billy Strayhorn never liked "Lush Life" and so he consequently never had recorded it with Duke Ellington nor did Ellington include it in his tribute to Strays, "And His Mother Called Him Bill". Great performance here. Thank you for posting it.

Man, this video is the reason why i want to be a jazz musician. This song just absolutely ripped me apart because of it's richness. In my opinion, this video is also why all the other genres of music fall one step short of Jazz.
Thanks for putting this up!
