Simon & Garfunkel - Old Friends

Back

From my personal favorite concert in Central Park, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel singing Old Friends. The vocals are just amazing.

Someone requested the lyrics, so here they are:

OLD FRIENDS LYRICS:

Old friends,
Old friends
Sat on their park bench
Like bookends.
A newspaper blown though the grass
Falls on the round toes
Of the high shoes
Of the old friends.

Old friends,
Winter companions,
The old men
Lost in their overcoats,
Waiting for the sunset.
The sounds of the city,
Sifting through trees,
Settle like dust
On the shoulders
Of the old friends.

Can you imagine us
Years from today,
Sharing a park bench quietly?
How terribly strange
To be seventy.
Old friends,
Memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fears

BOOKENDS LYRICS:

Time it was and what a time it was it was,
A time of innocence a time of confidences.

Long ago it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories, theyre all thats left you

59TH STREET BRIDGE SONG (FEELIN' GROOVY) LYRICS:

Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy.

Ba da, Ba da, Ba da, Ba da...Feelin' Groovy.

Hello lamp-post,
What cha knowin'?
I've come to watch your flowers growin'.
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in' doo-doo,
Feelin' groovy.

I've got no deeds to do,
No promises to keep.
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me.
Life, I love you,
All is groovy.

this song destroys the walls i build around myself to protect myself from the fear of the emotions i feel about the very topic of this song and the feelings being talked about here in the comment section. SUCH an amazing song it brings tears from my eye's and hairs on the back of my neck coupled with the feeling of un-certainty in my life i spend so much time hiding from, this song just digs all that stuff up and throws it in my face and i dont know what to do by the end of the song.

so beautiful and such great songs to listen to at the start of Autumn, oops, I mean the Fall!

That's what I always thought of their music. Reminds me of Autumn.

It was actually Harry Chapin who wrote and sang it and it is called "Cat's in the Cradle"
