Mormons Celebrate Religious Freedom in Spain

In a year-long commemoration, Church members in Spain celebrate the 30th anniversary of religious freedom in their country.
The sacrifices of early members helped establish a foundation upon which members today can build—a foundation upon which stands a temple near the heart of Madrid.
But it wasn't always this way. Not long ago, citizens who walked the streets of Spain had little or no choice in what church to belong to and what faith to believe in.
But the members in Spain persevered, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was officially recognized in 1968, with a small congregation in Madrid.
Over the next decade, the Spanish government enacted reforms, and in 1978 created a new constitution, paving the way for freer religious expression.
Now, 30 years later, the people of Spain are able to practice their faith openly share the gospel with others.
