Do schools today kill creativity? (Ken Robinson, TEDTalks)

Back

A must-see for every parent and teacher. Education guru Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining (and profoundly moving) case for creating an education system that nurtures creativity, rather than undermining it. Sir Ken Robinson is author of "Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative," and a leading expert on innovation in education and business. (Recorded February, 2006 in Monterey, CA.) Excellent speech.
However, I don't think he means to underestimate the importance of Maths in education. It is one of the most important subjects for people who are going to be scientist and engineers. Though all the people are not going to be scientists, engineers or ..... dancers. :)

So, how to design an education system to get maximum out of child's abilities is the key point here, I think. What is not happening right now. Children are not slaves of an Education system right?

This is true; imagine the world in 100 years if things go on the way they are. It will be barren, flat, with robots call people.

it's even worse now as we are not even educated in maths or English but simply into how to pass the test and never grasping the meaning behind it.

So true. People seem to want to get past everything they deem too hard to get through and just be content about it. Only a handful nowadays want to further their interests in education.

I agree completely. In English, my teachers have been horrific. We barely actually learn anything about literature or how to enjoy it; we only learn how to pass the state test or the English section of the PSAT. And in my last school, my English teacher strictly formatted everything we wrote so that it would fit her specific requirements, sentence by sentence, to be "the perfect college admission essay".
