Jon Lord talks about his Hammond organ sound
BackJon Lord, Ian Gillan, Ian Paice and Roger Glover talk about Jon's overdriven / distorted Hammond organ sound(mostly referred to as "The Beast") used on various Deep Purple records, albums such as In Rock, Machine Head and Made In Japan. Jon also gives a nice demonstration, playing the organ solo from Highway Star. Truly a great piece of Deep Purple history!

I wish the distorted organ sound was more closely emulated than it is. I just love the distorted organ sound so much!!!

It's emulated almost perfectly by the Roland VK-7 and the NI B4 software...

This man is just simply outstanding as a musician.
People always talk about Deep Purple as if its sound was crafted mainly by Ritchie Blackmore - well, maybe not quite so, but they tend to forget a little bit about the others. He is a genius, no doubt about that, but I personally wonder what Deep Purple would have sounded like had they had a "regular" organ player by that time. And I guess I know the answer: just another band in the myriad of others back then.
Long live Jon Lord.
