I live near Shooters Hill.

There's still an old set of coach steps at the top.

Next to Shooters Hill is a wide open green space called "The Fanny on the Hill" with a Pub of the same name over the far side.

Apparently "Fanny" was Dick Turpins girl and she would wave a lamp for him to see if it was safe and clear for him to come down from Shooters Hill to the Inn to see her or hide out from the law men.

I guess with some people it could become annoying - I've always found the opposite to be true with Carthy because he's such a scholar of trad. music. Often, during the parts when he's tuning, he tends to explain the story and origins of the song and other stuff like that, which personally I find fascinating in itself...

saw him years ago at mccabes in santa monica. simply great.
