How would you remember that song if you were only two years old then?

Why do people have to be so analytic? The main thing is that it is a beautiful song and this lead singer is dead. He accidentally shot himself with a spare bullet in his gun. If you google "Chicago", you will find the information in "Wikipedia."

why did he shoot himself .. that's terrible..

It happened when he was clearing out his gun. He thought that he had emptied all the bullets out, but one remained. He did not know that, so he put the gun to his head and fired a shot. He was killed immediately.

The lead singer seen here is Peter Cetera who is very much alive. The band had another lead singer, Terry Kath - he shot himself accidentally in 1978, very tragic. Both Cetera and Kath did lead singing, featured together occasionally such as in their excellent song "Dialogue".

I am sorry, beatleranallison, but it appears that I have confused the two lead singers. I thought that the one singing here had accidentally killed himself but it was another one. My apologies. Is the one singing here the same one as the one who sings "Hard to say I'm Sorry?"

No reason to apologize :) just wanted to clarify things. Peter Cetera did the bulk of the lead singing after '73 or so, even though Terry Kath was still in the group. Kath did more lead singing on their early hits. Kath also played guitar.
Yes, Peter Cetera sung "Hard to Say I'm Sorry".

Peter Cetera, leading on this song, is alive. There was another lead singer, Terry Kath, who accidentally killed himself in 1978 - very tragic. Sometimes the two sung lead together, such as in "Dialogue (pt. 1 and 2)"
