the end sort of freaks me out. the music is so upbeat but it's sort of sinister. I don't know why.

I know. I was never crazy about this play, it has a sinister side to it in terms what a actor goes through to be in the theatre. This song is upbeat.

The movie missed the entire point of the original show. The lyrics aren't supposed to be sinister -- they're supposed to be cynical. We've spent the last two hours getting to know these seventeen people on the line, and really come to appreciate how much they love dancing (this was back when 'What I Did For Love' was about dance, not Michael Douglas). And when the finale comes, and they're impossible to tell apart, and in order to do what they love they have to toil in the background behind a

presumably untalented star, it should be bittersweet -- bitter because they're so good and sweet because they are doing what they love.
