Gregorian Chant - "Dies Irae"

Back

This is a rendition of the famous 13th century Latin Catholic hymn, "Dies Irae" (or, "Day of Wrath," about the Second Coming of Christ and Judgment Day). This rendition is off the 1994 CD, "Ego sum Ressurectio," and is difficult to find.

That's a rather odd translation, and by no means literal. Here's a more accurate one (for the sections you gave):

Day of wrath, that day,
that shall dissolve the world to ashes
as foretold by David with the Sybil.

I groan, as the accused:
my face grows red from fault:
spare this supplicant, O God.

You who forgave Mary
and favorably heard the good thief,
have also given me hope.

The Catholic Church stands for proclaiming the Gospel of Christ as handed down to the apostles, loving Christ and worshiping Him in the fullness of the truth, and serving God with all its ability while expecting with joyous hope Christ's glorious return. What about that is it that you disagree with? The Bible you use was canonized by the Catholic Church, the Trinity was defined in the councils of the Church, proper method of baptism, etc. You owe a great debt to the Catholic Church, my friend...

these are the modified lyrics. they warped the words slightly to fit a rhyme and rhythm meter. it means basically the same thing though....

just thought to point that out =)

i dont believe in the catholic faith and what it stands for, as iam a christian Protestant and dont pray to any body else but the Lord Jesus Christ !
Tho i will say this is very reflecting and affirms my faith with the lord.

As a kid I used to listen to the choir sing Latin chants at our Catholic church. It's very comforting & beautiful --- like angels singing. I can still smell the votive candles.
