You're going the braid > locks route. That's cool. It looks "severe" now because of the neat, tight braids and the parts/segments.

But, after a few washings, a few months, some new growth fuzz (that you'll have to take care of) they'll start to look more like traditional dreads.

Some advice: because you have fine hair and you've started w/ fairly "skinny" locks, be careful with over-twisting/rolling to avoid breaking them. And, be patient. I went through a long awkward phase, too.

@rnare you're right, but what's happening is that as my hair grows out, it's growing as dreads. so eventually i'll trim off the hair that was twisted in.

dude, should just have backcombed...

i did and i've had dreads for 8 years now (i'm 19)

those arent dreadlocks. its someone elses hair tied onto yours, and then made into breads.

this probably sounds silly but I feel proud when I see white people with dreads?? kinda silly I know, thanks for sharing

mate, your hair looks exactly like mine did when i first had my dreads done!
maintenance can be hard work when you have so many though, you think think you'll keep them that size?

He has fine hair, and the braid/locks are probably skinny enough to join two together. I'd do it after the scalp area "fuzzes" out, but before too much new root growth set in.

It would probably involve twisting two locks together, then crocheting (same color) human hair through them (think: weaving or stitching). Wait for a few washings before you do MINIMAL finger twists for new growth.

He has thin/fine hair--he's got to be careful w/ his locks.

because of his hair type/texture, i dont know how much good twisting will do? i would think clockwise rubbing would be better for new growth?
i would join a few of the locks to make stronger sections, and then crochet the new locks to give the hair more texture so that they hold together better as they mature.
i think caucasian locks that have been put in by twisting can be pretty fragile anyway as isn't that method for starting dreads better suited for people with more textured hair?

no you are not suppose to put beeswaxs in your hair it is bad it clogs your pours.
