Personally I prefer the '86 version. Though this video is definitely the better of the two.
The '86 version is just more...I dunno, depressed? The music better fits the lyrics in that one, I think.

This video should include more of Sting taking his shirt off though ;P
Oh and by the way this song is most definately reference to "Lolita" and Humbert is a writer when he decides to lodge at the house, but i believe they are referencing more to his graphic descriptions of how he felt in her prescence, rather than whether he is her teacher or not, which he isnt.
