Use the most obvious and general motif to count the time. In this case it's the singers phrasing.....as it is in most cases. So, when the drums start, count to six repeatedly. 123456. You'll see it'll fit nicely. The keyboardist is playing in that time, but, in triplets. SO, tap your foot now...1, 2, 3, 4...and for every 2 beats fit the numbers 1,2,3 verbally into the 2 beat space. hope this helps

i heard the same thing, and was TOTALLY CONFUSED because this song is not about the good side of America. It's not a hope filled song. It's beautiful, but cynical. It's not about a brighter tomorrow.
