it's not actually Pink Floyd it was the surrogate band which was an idea roger came up with on the animals tour when he said he wished there could be a surrogate band so I can go home.

i wonder how much different it must have been to hear this music before the movie was out. This concert was 81, The Wall the movie came out in 82. Must have been weird to hear it without the visualization of Pink (Geldof) and the hammer army, and a bunch of other stuff too :p

The Surrogate Band' is a concept that Waters came up with basically to prove a point that people just weren't getting what Pink Floyd was about. The idea was that PF could send this 'surrogate' or substitute band out to perform, and no one would tell the difference.
