Julie Moss competing in the 1982 Hawaii Ironman Triathlon
BackIn 1982, Julie Moss became worldwide famous during the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon, in which she competed as part of her research for her exercise physiology thesis. At approximately two miles before the finish line, she came severely dehydrated. She staggered and crawled towards the end of the course, only to be passed moments before the finish line by Kathleen McCartney. Her struggle to finish the Ironman was broadcasted live around the world by ABC Sports, and provided inspiration to many.

I didn't realize until I saw this today why the current triathlon rules state on the running segment that "You may run or walk, but may not crawl."

The ironic part about that is that someone finishing by crawling is perhaps more incredible than on their feet.

if she would of walked instead of trying to run she would of probably won. I guess your mind gets dehydrated too. Truly inspirational though at what somebody's will and determination can overcome.
