By the way, I'm 20 years old and have Who's Next as my desktop wallpaper and Eminence Front as my ringtone. I've listened to ALL of the Who's albums. Their music changed my life.

Coincidentally, I happen to think that the Who's "peak" years coincided with the best years of rock music - from '65 to the release of Quadrophenia in '73. (If you want to get REAL specific, you can narrow it down to '67 to '73).

Not that By Numbers and Who Are You weren't great albums - they were, just not QUITE as much as some earlier ones. And then Keith died and they released two albums which both sucked on toast with a side order of hashbrowns with the exception of ONE hit song. Go figure.

well said bbq....and may I add....the reason everything they did is SUPERB is because Keith Moon is still the BEST F***ING DRUMMER in the world; Pete writes AMAZING material, unmatched by ANYONE and can get sounds out of the guitar like no one before or since, and John was THE 1st & only BASS (not player but) GUITARIST. Just completely AWESOME talent when combined is unparallel to any other band. PERIOD. Well, except maybe the Beatles....but in a different way. LONG LIVE THE WHO!!!!!!!!!

WHAT?????? you must have had your head in the sand since '74...or just OBLIVIOUS...

Yes, but long after they'd peaked. Even with Keith, they hadn't done anything wonderful since '74.

I think that the reason the who arent more popular is because they werent a great studio band but as a live band they were unmatchable, but live performances are rarely noticed.

I disagree somewhat. While they were much better live than they were in studio (obviously, seeing as how they were the greatest live band of all time), they did release good studio albums. Everything they did from Sell Out to Quadrophenia is superb, great enough to rank as a lesser band's sole crowning achievement. For the Who, each is just one in a series of spectacular albums (though if I had to pick one, I'd pick Quadrophenia).

Dont forget that half of their band died, the drummer and the bassist.

Curt Cobain owed a lot to these guys, who were old enough to be his grandpas by the time he started to thrash around and make noise with a guitar.

I swear, I don't know if it's the acid or what but this is one of the strangest (and most violent) versions of Sparks that I have heard.
